Originally, when Chapters of Royal Arch Masonry were under the government of Lodges, it was a regulation that no one could receive the Royal Arch Degree unless he had previously presided in the Lodge as Master.
When Chapters became independent the regulation could not be abolished because it would have been an innovation in Masonry. The Virtual Past Master Degree was instituted to make it possible for worthy Master Masons to receive the Royal Arch Degree without having to first have been elected to serve as the Master of a Lodge of Masons.
The Virtual Past Master’s Degree teaches the foundation of leadership.
Due to a lack of interest, this continuing series is terminated. Please review past posts for an exploration of the York Rite Degrees.
